Cabin fever

We’ve been in our house for 3 weeks now and in the UK, unbelievably, for just over 2 months. People ask if I’m settled yet and my answer is always, yeah the house is settled enough. How can I be settled though without friends, without a social life, without really knowing anyone in the area? I guess is takes a while to find your bearings but with the kids home — for almost 2.5 months now — it’s been slow going. I can’t wait for school to start to begin some exploring on my own, making some friends (hopefully! It feels so daunting in the beginning!), having a life.

I can’t wait to begin baking. It seems ages since I got involved in cookie making, and I miss it. Ingredients even behave differently here. It’ll be interesting to tweak recipes to suit the location.

I’m here, but it’s not home. Yet.

  1. I can’t imagine that once you meet other mums at school and get out a bit you won’t find your spot and make it feel like a new home soon… thinking of you!
